Granville Gardens and bandstand c.1910.
The Granville Gardens were laid out
in 1878 by the Dover Harbour Board on the site of the
old
Sea Front baths. The
gardens, with their bandstand, pavilion and restaurant,
were a popular resort with Dovorians until the outbreak
of World War 2.
Much of this part of the
Sea
Front was destroyed by enemy action and the post
war reinstatement of the gardens is pale imitation of
their former glory. In the background of the photo can
be seen Dover's short lived
Promenade
Pier.
