The Costa Mediterranea towers over the town.
On Wednesday 28th May 2003 the Costa Mediterranea,
the largest passenger liner ever to dock at the Port of Dover,
arrived at the Cruise Liner Terminal on the Admiralty
Pier. The ship is the new 85,700-ton flagship for Costa
Cruises.
The ship, which measures 960 metres long,
can carry 2,680 passengers in 1,056 cabins and has a crew
of 900.
The ship was delivered to its new owners
in Helsinki on Tuesday, and arrived at Dover on Wednesday
on its inaugural voyage. About 1,000 travel agents from across
the UK were invited to visit the vessel during its two day
stay in Dover.
The ship sailed from Dover on Thursday 29th
May, on its way to Naples, where it was christened before
embarking on its maiden commercial journey from Genoa on 16th
June.
